Garstang Youth Council

Youth Council Park Sculptures

On 28th April 2017, the Youth Council sculptures were finally unveiled on the park.
Ben Wallace MP and Garstang Youth Mayor, Lucas Brown, cut the ribbon. They were joined by Oliver Atkinson who, along with his fellow Youth Councillors, raised the funds for the sculptures.
Also present were Garstang Mayor, Cllr Alan Cornthwaite, LCC Councillor, Sandra Perkins, Former Town Councillor and instigator of the Youth Council, Lynn Harter, and Kepple Lane Park Trustees, Cllr Gordon Harter, Andrew Brown, Cllr Joe Gilmour, Joan Baptie and Annette Brown.

The sculptures where specially selected to merge in with the theme of nature which covers the whole of the park, the Youth Council was very interested in making sure this design feature was met.

Youth Connection

Garstang Youth Council have a long-standing association with Kepple Lane Park. Members of the Youth Council have attended meetings and taken an active part in public consultations right from the start of the Park Project.

At our first Kepple Lane Park Fun Day in the summer of 2014, the Youth Council organised a Tombola and ran the Treasure Hunt. They raised over £100 on the day for the Young Mayor’s Charity.

Kepple Lane Park Fun Day

On Oliver's election to the position of Young Mayor in October 2014, Oliver Atkinson announced that his chosen charity for the year was to be Kepple Lane Park. Fund raising events organised included a coffee morning, a cake sale, bag-packing at Sainsbury’s and a stall on the second Kepple Lane Park Fun Day. Based on what had been achieved in previous years, the Youth Council set a target of £250. By the end of Oliver’s term of office, more than £700 had been raised.

Following his successful year as Young Mayor, Kepple Lane Park Trust asked Oliver to join them as Youth Liaison Officer. We look forward to working well into the future with Oliver and the rest of the Youth Council.
